Ï㽶ӰÊÓ statement regarding MCEC misconduct charges

Published: October 20, 2020
Today, Oct. 20, 2020,  (MCEC) is that has resulted in the termination of John D. Rempel’s ministerial credentials due to ministerial sexual misconduct and ministerial misconduct early in his professional career while he was employed at Conrad Grebel University College in Waterloo, Ontario. We were deeply saddened to learn about the charges and the subsequent findings by the investigative team of MCEC. John was a professor at Ï㽶ӰÊÓ from 2003 to 2012. We lament the harm that he caused to former students at Conrad Grebel University College and pray that the outcome of this investigation can contribute to their healing.
We were contacted by MCEC leaders, who informed us of the investigation and inquired whether Ï㽶ӰÊÓ had received any reports of misconduct by John while he was employed at Ï㽶ӰÊÓ. In support of MCEC’s investigation, we reviewed John’s employment records at Ï㽶ӰÊÓ and checked with former administrators. We found no instances of reported misconduct at Ï㽶ӰÊÓ in our review.
As the MCEC investigation reveals, many incidents of sexual misconduct are not reported at the time they occur. In keeping with Ï㽶ӰÊÓ’s Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures, Ï㽶ӰÊÓ leaders are open to receiving any reports of sexual misconduct that may have occurred among members of our learning community at any time. If you were harmed by any Ï㽶ӰÊÓ-affiliated individual, please contact us. We will listen carefully to you and prioritize your needs in discerning an appropriate response. Reports can be made to Academic Dean Beverly Lapp by emailing bklapp@ambs.edu or by filling out our online reporting form.
